Obviously you ride somewhere , you must know every bump on every road in your state by now, I was just curious as you mentioned long hauls.

Long hauls for me could range any wheres from 300 miles to 1000 miles over a 24 hour period. It all depends on who I'm riding with, how far they wanna travel,[there's a lot of wanna be bikers out there who think 100 miles is a long ride,WHIMPS,lol] and or my destination!!!

Dave if you ride 1,000 mile within 24 hours, you could get you an "Iron Butt" patch!

I haven't quite hit that 1000 mile mark "YET,but if and when I do hit that mark,I think I'll probably need alittle more then just an "IRON BUTT" patch!!! Maybe a little Preperation H to start with, followed by a nice soft pillow to park my ass on for a week.

I don't know how you do it Dave. Last year I did a three day trip where it was 350, 410 and 360 miles. Those were some long days in the saddle. Bike ran like a champ but I couldn't do that for more than a couple more days. You've ridden more miles than I've ridden and driven combined. I barely put 10,000 miles on my car each year. Quite the inspiration. I can't even imagine 1,000 miles in a day. At the end of that 410 mile day I was definitely ready to get off the bike. Did 140 miles yesterday and that's no problem but as the hours drag on during those longer days it gets to be a mental challenge.

I agree, there is quite a range in what riders think is a long day. It depends on how far and exactly what they are riding that determines wimpyness in my book.

for example; 300 mile day on a hardtail sportster (especialy with a pillion) is pretty good. The same mileage on a modern criuser/bagger or full dresser is not even worth mentioning (and you should well be embarassed if you do mention it). 500 to 800 miles is getting somewhere. 1000 plus seems like heading for the big boys pants.

the wimpyness factor also hinges on the rider being of sound mind and whole body. 3 arms or 2 brains would be an advantage that would require more miles.

Yesterday,I racked up alittle over 300 miles in the course of the afternoon because it was a nice cool and sunny day,and am now closing in on the 119,000 mile mark. But that's because I'm just a young wipper snapper, unlike you ole fucks!! But I have traveled close to that 1000 mile mark in one day,and like you,I too was ready to get off the bike,BUT,after alittle breather,I have discovered that I can get right back on it,turn on my tunes, and rack up a few more miles. But my scooter is also set up strickly for TOURING and not playing squirrel [taking on all comers ] which is something I USED to do,but that was about 100 years ago. Today I'm just alittle smarter, not much, just alittle!!!

Whatever man. I work 60+ hours a week like a lot of guys on here do and have two kids under ten. I have three or four days tops a year where I can ride more than three hours. 300 miles in a day IS a long ride for me. Would love to ride longer but have many other obligations. Sorry if that's wimpy to you. Guess I'll just bow out now.

Well gang, this AM I had the pleasure,or displeasure, depending how ya look at it,of road testing a brandy new 2017 Indian Springfield. What I can tell ya right now about it is,it's a LOT heavier then the Tbird is,it sucks up gas at a pretty good clip, and it doesn't have any wheres near the power that the Tbird has.But what it does have is a nice plush ride and a VERY HEFTY PRICE TAG!! Dave!!!

I think you should try the 2017 Road Glide 107 next. I'm not sure about plush ride but it's slow too w/ bells and whistles.

I never cared for the HD when I first started riding,[about 100 years ago ] and STILL don't care for em today.Like the Indian, they too are over rated and over priced. If one likes the HD or the Indian, then by all means, they should buy one.Myself,I look at all the pros and cons of said machine, as well as the price, not to mention the accessories and or parts to fix it.The labor is performed by a dumb Polock!!!

Dave, a friend of mine who works at an Indian dealership said one (1) of the leather saddlebags for an Indian is $900.00 dollars Apparently they've had some riders who's bags have been stolen as they are easily removed.
God only knows what one of the hard bags that goes on that Springfield costs

YES!!!

I had also commented about how heavy the Indian Springfield was. Its' advertised curb weight is 818 lbs.,or 6 lbs. more then the Tbird SE I own.And when I swung my leg over the machine to lift it off the side stand,I new something was wrong with their claimed curb weight figure, and I was right. After doing alittle more research, the actual curb weight is 862 lbs.,or 7 lbs. less then the RSV I replaced my Tbird with because of its' weight of 869 lbs.So they lied!! Indians' Road Master has an advertised curb weight of 937 lbs.,so I can only imagine what its' true curb weight is. Once you're moving, the weight is not noticeable. But when you stop in traffic,or lift it off its' side stand,"LOOK OUT" cause you'll probably end up either, laying under it in the middle of,or on the side of, the street.

It's actually not that bad of a bike. I rode the 2017 Ultra Limited and the 2017 Indian RoadMaster back to back last week. Rode out 15 miles on the HD and rode back 15 miles on the RoadMaster. The HD 107 is much improved over the 103, doesn't shake your fillings out at every light and the throttle response is instant. The new front suspension has improved the handling of the Ultra a lot, the rear is better now but still a little choppy, shifting is also smoother with the new 107 HD, no more Clunk you can hear from two blocks away, a slight clunk now. The Ultra balances out very nicely, hardly notice the weight of the bike. The Indian RM has a better overall ride quality, very smooth and predictable, quiet and smooth shifting transmission. The new dash with the big ass touch screen rocks if you like to see what your bike is doing and where you're going. The gauges are easy to read in all light levels, a huge improvement over the 2016. The Indian's power is linear across the power band, it takes a lot of wrist to get it moving but it will move. I'd still take the Indian over the HD but the 107 has greatly improved my opinion of the HD tourers.

im goin to check out the 107 today, tried the rm a few months back, felt like it fell flat on the top end but gobs of torque low

Let me know what you thought, i for one liked the road glide and bought the darn thing, but i am still very happy i did. Not the Storm for sure, just a different good.

i ended up liking it so much i picked up a road glide ultra, its no tbird handling wise but it fits my frame better lol
